James is developing a busy practice and is regularly instructed in all areas of Chambers' work including general commercial and contractual disputes, professional negligence, trusts and equity matters, wills and probate, inheritance act claims, insolvency, property and cross-border disputes.  He has substantial litigation experience in the High Court and County Courts. 

 

James is currently instructed as sole Counsel in the Court of Appeal in a shipping law matter worth over $3million. 

  • Notable recent cases

    Cherney v Deripaska:  James was instructed as junior counsel in the Court of Appeal in which the first instance decision allowing Michael Cherney to serve his claim against Oleg Deripaska out of the jurisdiction was upheld.

  • Education

    James obtained the highest overall marks in law papers in both his second and final years at Bristol University where he was awarded the Herbert Smith prize for best overall performance and the Freshfields prize for Trusts law. During his undergraduate studies James won the ESU Inter-Varsity Mooting Competition as well as the Bristol University Mooting Competition.

    He completed the BCL at Lincoln College Oxford where he focused on competition law, restitution and evidence.

    James was awarded a Major Scholarship at the Inner Temple as well as the Inner Temple prize for an outstanding result in his bar school exams.

    Between October 2008 and January 2009 James worked as the Judicial Assistant to Lady Justice Arden in the Court of Appeal.
