Richard has practised in litigation in the Chancery and commercial fields for the whole of his career.
He has extensive experience in commercial litigation relating to banking, company law, insolvency and negligence proceedings with a particular emphasis upon disputes arising from accounting issues.
He has appeared in numerous cases involving accountancy firms from the largest to the smallest, whether as insolvency practitioners, defendants in professional indemnity claims or expert witnesses.
He also has extensive regulatory experience, having served on the Institute of Chartered Accountants Practice Regulation Review Committee (hearing cases involving the removal of practising licences in the specialist areas of audit, insolvency, and financial services).
Richard’s practice also covers property law, commercial contracts, banking and corporate finance, financial services and international and domestic arbitration.
He speaks fluent French, and is able to advise and to represent clients in the language.

- Saran Dass Jassi v Stanley Gallagher [2006] EWCA Civ 1065.
- Olympique Lyonnais v Al Fayed (2003). Richard acted for the Olympique Lyonnais football club in their claim for fees due on the transfer of Steve Marlet to Fulham.
- Richard appeared in the Tribunal de Grande Instance at Nice in a claim to recover property vested in an Isle of Man company for the benefit of a French beneficiary who had been fraudulently induced to transfer control of the company (December 2003).

- New Cap Reinsurance Corporation Ltd v HIH Casualty & General Insurance Ltd [2002] EWCA Civ 300.
- In 2000 Richard represented a major Hong Kong landowner in a very substantial arbitration against the Hong Kong government.
