Caribbean
For many years, 3 Stone Buildings has had links to the Caribbean, including in particular the British Virgin Islands, the Cayman Islands, Bermuda and the Bahamas. Members of Chambers are currently involved in litigation throughout the Caribbean concerning Madoff and other funds. Details of some recent cases involving Members of Chambers are set out on the Overseas page.
Members of Chambers regularly advise local lawyers and appear before the Caribbean courts at all levels.
Last year Geoffrey Vos QC was appointed a justice of the Court of Appeal in the Cayman Islands and Edward Bannister QC was appointed the first ever judge of the Commercial Court of the Eastern Caribbean circuit sitting in the British Virgin Islands.
Chambers is fully active in legal education and social events in the Caribbean. In October 2007, ten members of chambers together with the Senior and First Junior Clerk visited the British Virgin Islands to present a half-day seminar on Off-Shore Commercial and Trust Litigation entitled “The Erosion of Privacy”. Edward Bannister QC was subsequently invited to present a seminar to the BVI judiciary, which he did in April 2008.
In April of this year nine members of Chambers accompanied by the Senior and First Junior Clerk presented a half-day seminar in the Cayman Islands entitled “Trouble in Paradise”.
